Filipe Albuquerque interview to JLpress Sports

Filipe Albuquerque
Filipe Albuquerque

Filipe Albuquerque is, in our opinion, one of the best drivers of today. He really makes a difference in a team.

We challenged a group of racing fans to make some questions to Filipe Albuquerque. Fabrice Martins asked:

FM – What team will you be running this year’s Le Mans 24 hours?

FA – I have not yet confirmed the participation in the 24h of Le Mans.

JLpress – Having already tested the new Ligier JS P217 and for the car you drove at WEC last year, what are the main differences between the two?

FA – The main one is the engine. It is more rotating, makes 9 500rpm with 600cv and the previous one made 7 300rpm with 480cv. The chassis and aerodynamic kit is also different, it has more “downforce” that we experienced mainly at the fast corners.

JLpress – For Cadillac, how do you rate the performance of the car at the 24-hour Daytona?

FA – It had an excellent performance. Who followed the race realized this because the fight was only between Cadillac. My car in particular was very good because it even resisted well with the wheels’ hits (laughs).

JLpress – We know of the interest of Adess in establishing its factory in the Lisbon area, placing Portugal in the restricted group of LMP prototype builders. How do you see this kind of projects for a country like Portugal and for Portuguese motorsports?

FA – If it happens it would be very positive for Portugal and especially for Portuguese motorsports and it would bring more investment which is always welcome.

JLpress – Formula E is in its third season and brings together a significant number of great drivers and brands to discuss the title. In addition the “Street Race” format is quite current and draws a lot of public. Do you consider going back to the monologues in Formula E? Is it a seductive project for you?

FA – At the moment I am focused on the endurance races and that is where I want to keep up but that does not mean that in the future it cannot be an alternative in terms of career because Formula E is gaining its space in motorsport.

Filipe Albuquerque – United Autosport

JLpress – Can you tell us more about what’s going to happen in your 2017 season?

My sports program has already been presented. I will do the American Championship with João Barbosa and Fittipaldi and ELMS with United Autosports. Two championships where the goal is to reach the title.
