The debut of Frederico Morais in the first stage of the world surfing circuit is going very well.

The Portuguese was qualified, on this Thursday, for the third round of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, in Australia, imposing to Brazil’s Filipe Toledo and Australia’s Adrian Buchan. Kikas, as he’s known in the surf’s world, won the 10th heat, with 15.70 points (8.73 and 6.97), relegating to the “repechage” Toledo, 10th of the circuit in 2016, and Buchan, 14 , Which totaled 15.10 (7.60 and 7.50) and 13.43 (7.43 and 6.00), respectively.

I was very happy! I knew it was going to be difficult, Filipe has been surfing very well and the sea was unstable, but I focused on myself and my surf, and when I could try the last wave, I knew that there was a little time, about a minute, and I had to take a chance, it was the last chance, and luckily I did it, “said the Portuguese, having become the only “rookie” to win the first round.

Hawaiian John John Florence, world title holder, South African Jordy Smith, American Kolohe Andino, Australians Mick Fanning, Matt Wilkinson, Julian Wilson and Joel Parkinson and Brazilians Jadson André and Gabriel Medina also advanced directly to The third round, while North American Kelly Slater, 11-time world champion, was relegated to the second round, recap.

The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, the first of the 11 stages of the circuit, runs until March 25.
