JLPress was in the boxes of the Autodromo do Estoril, to accompany the testing day of Team Costa Campos Racing. This is the last preparation for the International GT Open’s season that will take place at the Estoril circuit, on April 29
Costa Campos Racing has a luxury team of Portuguese drivers: Tiago Monteiro, Lourenço Beirão da Veiga and António Félix da Costa at the wheel of the BMW M6 GT3.
“This new challenge is very special because I will do it with two friends of mine (L. Beirão da Veiga and Felix da Costa),” said Tiago Monteiro, who is a Honda driver and currently leads the WTCC. “I have not been in a car like this BMW GT for 15 years, I still have to adapt me to the car, but I enjoyed this first experience, the car is very balanced,” the Portuguese driver said.
Lourenço Beirão da Veiga is the main driver of the team who was also very pleased to be part of this project: “We managed to bring together an excellent team that mix of experience, speed and friendship which is always good” said the driver who came from Seat Leon Eurocup.
Regarding the importance of these tests at Estoril, Beirão da Veiga assured that they are extremely important because “they allow to correct some mistakes and eliminate what is less well without the stress of official tests where there are many cars on track.”
On the expectations of winning the race of the circuit of Estoril, the driver said: “this is not a very favorable circuit due to the layout of the track, but the car is very good, it has a great engine” and he hopes that “the public will come in strength to support us here at home. ”
António Félix da Costa, who has not been “at home” since 2008, is also very confident in the result of the GT Open’s 2017 season. The driver, despite the many commitments made with BMW, is clearly pleased with the opportunity to return to the circuit of Estoril almost 10 years later. “I call on all those who support Team Costa Campos Racing to come on the 29th,” he said.
Asked by JLPress about the difficulties of the circuit of Estoril, Félix da Costa explains: “This circuit is complicated because it has a slow curve and then curves that vary a lot between slow and medium speed and then there are two fast ones so it is very difficult to tune a car And make a compromise that works everywhere “this requires” the driver often has to compromise some areas to favor the car and that is what we are doing today, “said the official BMW driver.
In the end of the day, we expect a very competitive championship with excelent cars and drivers. Full house is required at Autodromo do Estoril on Saturday, April 29, to see the race that starts the season and where the Portuguese and Team Costa Campos Racing will fight hard for the podium places, because this is Tiago Monteiro’s motto:“Work Hard Play Hard”.
